National Service Days

Some of the more widely known Days of Service include:

*9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance (Patriot Day), always September 11. Purpose: To collect, preserve, and present the history of the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania and the public responses to them.  – in honor of those who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against America. *Make A Difference Day, always Fourth Saturday in October (not necessarily the last Saturday in October). Purpose: To inspire and reward volunteers. Family Volunteer Day, usually November. Purpose: To call families across America to work together in volunteer service. LINKhttp://www.pointsoflight.org/signature-events/family-volunteer-day

*MLK DAY, always January. Purpose: To help keep Dr. Kings’s legacy of service to others alive in communities across the country by engaging people of all abilities in volunteer service or help to those in need.  LINK: http://www.pointsoflight.org/signature-events/martin-luther-king-jr-day-service

National Volunteer Week, usually April. Purpose: To recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers at the local, state, and national levelsLINK: http://www.pointsoflight.org/signature-events/national-volunteer-week

Global Youth Service Day. Purpose: To empower young people, highlighting their ongoing contributions to their communities and mobilizing their energy, commitment, and idealism through sustainable service. LINK: http://www.gysd.org
