Individuals, families, friends, school and community groups — anyone looking to make a difference in our community.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, an annual community service event to benefit local nonprofits, sponsored by The Volunteer Center, The Kindness Connection and the Winnetka Community House.

Monday, January 21, 2019 — Drop in anytime from 1pm-4pm.  NO RESERVATIONS REQUIRED!

Winnetka Community House, 620 Lincoln Avenue, Winnetka

In honor of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., volunteers of all ages and abilities can participate in service projects to benefit local nonprofits and the people in need that they serve. The afternoon will also provide a forum for polite, open-mic discussion of civil liberties and service to mankind, and Dr. King’s enduring message of tolerance, diversity and service

This year volunteers are invited to make:

  • blankets and scarves and for the homeless and refugees
  • pet toys for orphaned animals
  • valentines and letters to veterans
  • beaded bracelets for women and children in domestic shelters
  • woven placemats for homebound senior citizens
  • candy bags for seniors
  • animal cards for hospitalized children in Chicago

Bring 4 yards of fleece if you want to make a no-sew blanket — all other materials will be provided.

Plus, we are gratefully accepting the following donations

  • Laundry Detergent for the New Trier Township Food Pantry
  • New and gently-used warm coats for Refugees and Veterans
  • Umbrellas (new or gently used) for Refugee One
