The mission of North Shore Senior Center is to foster the independence and well-being of older adults, enhance their dignity and self respect, and promote their participation in and contribution toward all aspects of community life.

We seek volunteers to help with various programs, including Social Services, House of Welcome, Lifelong Learning, Escorted Transportation, Development and Marketing.

Current Opportunities at North Shore Senior Center

Lifelong Learning Program Aide

If you enjoy educational seminars dealing with a variety of topics such as politics, travel, health, movies, popular culture and more then consider becoming a program aide.  Volunteers are needed to help sign-in individuals who have registered for our North Shore Senior presentations.  Once sign-in is complete, volunteers are welcome to attend the program at no charge.

    House of Welcome Program Assistants, Music Therapy and Pet Therapy

    Make a difference in the lives of persons with memory loss by interacting in the home-like setting of the House of Welcome Adult Day Service Program. (HOW). The HOW program serves older adults living with memory loss and provides a structured group program of therapeutic activities.  You will assist with schedule activities or spend time 1-1 with participants. No previous experience or skills required.

    However,IF you have a pet therapy animal you can participate in that aspect.  IF you play a musical instrument you can participate in the music therapy portion.

      Gardening Volunteer

      Help maintain our outside garden areas!  We are seeking individuals to help with the maintenance of the raised beds and garden areas at our Northfield location.  We are seeking a volunteer 1-3 hours a month in fall/winter and 10 hours/month in the spring/summer seasons.

      Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Assistant

      Seeking 1-2 volunteers for our Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program.  On the 2nd Monday of the month, volunteers will assist the Childcare specialist with childcare duties at the Levy Senior Center in Evanston from 6:30-8:30 pm.  You will help with activities, snack time and clean-up.  Dinner  provided.

      Escorted Transportation Service Coordinator

      Volunteer from the comfort of your own home in this flexible role as a Coordinator.  Coordinate rides for appreciative seniors to and from medical appointments. You will retrieve phone message requests from our clients and pair them with available volunteer drivers. Each of our coordinators serves a two-week turn on a rotating schedule.

      Benefits Assistant

      Volunteers are needed at the Evanston location to help individuals in the community apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a benefit provided for gas and electric bills, Medicaid, SNAP and other programs. Volunteers should be comfortable using a computer, demonstrate attention to detail, and have good verbal and written communication skills. We ask for a time commitment of approximately ½ day per week.

      Do you have a talent for audio production? An interest in preserving life histories? Receive training to transfer people’s recorded oral histories onto CDs for them to keep or share.
